Netflix on Apple TV + and Disney +: “They don't have the variety, diversity and quality of our catalog”

The streaming industry has seen two new competitors arrive: Apple TV + and Disney +. And Netflix wanted to talk about it in a public statement (PDF) about its financial results for the third quarter of 2019 and its predictions for the end of the year.

The analysis of its financial data leaves us with interesting curiosities such as that the company has grown to 5.2 billion dollars in profits, with 31% improvement over the previous year, but Netflix has also talked about the competition. Specifically on Apple TV + and Disney +.

From Netflix they say that the competition will help accelerate the transition from traditional TV to streaming content , but they also wanted to mention that the catalog of their platform has more variety, diversity and quality.

Netflix and streaming content competition

The proliferation of mobile devices, as well as on-demand television services, has allowed streaming content companies to have the ability to offer more competitive prices and level the balance with respect to traditional television.

In fact, from Netflix they think that additional players who have joined streaming audiovisual content services will help accelerate the transition to on-demand solutions. In addition, they have also wanted to add that the arrival of services such as Disney +, Apple TV +, HBO Max and Peacock increases competition, but they are still very small compared to linear TV.

"IN OUR VIEW, THE CONSEQUENCE OF THE LAUNCH OF THESE NEW SERVICES (APPLE TV +, DISNEY +, HBO MAX AND PEACOCK) WILL ACCELERATE THE CHANGE FROM LINEAR TV TO THE CONSUMPTION OF ENTERTAINMENT ON DEMAND."

But nevertheless, as we previously pointed out, the queen of streaming subscriptions has mentioned that no rival of the competition has managed to reach its level of diversity and quality with respect to its catalog of series, films and documentaries.

"ALTHOUGH THE NEW COMPETITORS HAVE SOME FANTASTIC TITLES, NONE HAVE THE VARIETY, DIVERSITY AND QUALITY OF OUR ORIGINAL CONTENT THAT WE ARE PRODUCING AROUND THE WORLD."

Netflix financial results in the third quarter

In its official statement, Netflix has dispelled any doubt regarding its good fiscal results for the third quarter. The data is devastating, and everything seems to indicate that they will continue on track during the fourth quarter of this year 2019.

The company mentioned that competition will be no more than a small obstacle in relation to its long-term growth. Netflix has exceeded the expectations of Wall Street investors and analysts, with earnings per share of $ 1.47 while estimates indicated that it would be only $ 1.04.

Netflix has earned a total of $ 5.245 million in profits during this quarter. Which forms a 31.1% growth compared to the same quarter of 2018.

The second quarter of 2019 was not as productive, the company earned 4,923 million dollars and achieved a growth of 26.0% compared to 2018. And in the same period of 2018, that is, in the third quarter of last year Netflix made a profit of 3,999 million dollars.

Another of the most curious facts about Netflix's fiscal results is that the third season of La Casa de Papel was the most watched series in non-English speaking territories. 44 million people watched the season during the first month since its broadcast. Other of the most watched series have been Stranger Things and Unbelievable (Creedme).

Netflix has also indicated that they have 158 million active subscribers worldwide, a figure that has grown by 21.4% over the same quarter last year.

As for Apple TV + , its launch is expected to take place on November 1, 2019. Apple's streaming platform will feature a lot of audiovisual content in which we will find Jennifer Anniston, Reese Witherspoon, Steve Carell, Steven Spielberg , Oprah Winfrey, Jason Momoa or JJ Abrams, among others. Apple TV + streaming services will cost 4.99 euros per month, but iOS, macOS and tvOS users can enjoy a free trial month.
