Comparison iPad (2017) vs iPad (2018)

During the special Apple keynote that took place yesterday, March 27, at Chicago's Lane Tech Institute, the company introduced a new low-cost iPad along with other software innovations such as the new Schoolwork app or the ClassKit development platform. .

The new iPad (2018) has arrived with a base price simply spectacular and very affordable. But will it be worth buying this tablet? What differentiates the new iPad from its previous generation? In this article we will make a comparison with all details luxury between Apple's two low-cost iPad.

Apple's low-cost tablet was, without a doubt, the star of a disappointing event in which we expected much more. Okay, maybe the AirPower is not ready yet for its launch, and that the iPhone does not usually arrive until the end of the year, but neither iOS 11.3 appeared on the scene.

iPad (2017) vs iPad (2018)
Design

At the design level, the truth is that both tablets are extremely similar. Rather, they are identical. We expected some slight change in the size of its side bevels, but the apple company has not changed its design at all.

Both the iPad (2017) and the iPad (2018) have dimensions of 240 x 169.5 x 7.5 mm . Its weight also seems to be the same, between 469 grams and 478 grams depending on the model (Wi-Fi + Cellular). On the other hand, it is noteworthy to mention that the new model continues to maintain the 3.5 mm jack jack for headphones.

Update: Another slight change in design, apparently the iPad (2018) has a new Gold color finish.
screen

The new iPad (2018) also has a 9.7-inch Retina display . Exactly the same size as its predecessor. The resolution is still 1,536 x 2,048 pixels , which is not ideal to watch your favorite Netflix series, but it's more than acceptable for a low-cost tablet.
Camera

As for the cameras, Apple offers the same features on both the iPad (2017) and the iPad (2018). This implies that they have a 1.2 MP FaceTime HD camera with aperture f / 2.2 and Retina Flash. On the other hand, its 8 MP rear camera has an aperture f / 2.4 , automatic image stabilization, HDR and HD video recording at 1.080p.
Processor

In the processing section is where we find the most notable differences between both tablets. The iPad (2017) came with an A9 processor and an M9 coprocessor, while the new iPad (2018) has an A10 Fusion chip and an M10 coprocessor. Apple does not reveal the RAM of its terminals, but supposedly the two tablets have 2 GB of RAM .

Therefore, the iPad (2018) will provide greater processing management in functions such as multitasking, resources, augmented reality, games, etc.
Battery

We do not know how wide should be the battery capacity of the iPad (2018) presented by Apple recently, but considering that they have virtually the same hardware components and a range of 10 hours ... most likely the new iPad has the same 8,827 mAh battery as the previous generation model.

Is it worth buying the new iPad (2018)?

Actually, leaving aside the compatibility with the Apple Pencil , both models of the "iPad" of Apple are very similar. The differences at the processing level should not be barely noticeable . But this probably changes after the arrival of iOS 12 , which will make the user experience of the iPad (2017) not as fluid as it has been so far. So if you are thinking about renewing your tablet and do not want to spend a lot of money, the iPad (2018) is your best option since it has an unbeatable price-performance ratio.
