All rumors point to LG manufacturing the OLED panels of Apple smartphones in 2018. The bite apple company has invested billions of dollars to help LG start production of OLED panels for future iPhone.
KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has found a new report sharing more data on the deal. Apparently, as we have known for some time, the Samsung OLED panels for the iPhone 10th anniversary have been "one of the most problematic components."
As Samsung is currently the only company with facilities capable of hosting the development and manufacturing of OLED panels , Apple is working to help LG with similar facilities.
Samsung has delayed much in the supply of OLED panels
During this summer we talked about the different difficulties that the smartphone of the 10th anniversary has faced. Samsung was delayed in providing OLED panels to Apple, something that could have caused that the special edition smartphone took longer than necessary to be commercialized globally.
Even so, despite the large investment that Apple has made in LG, Samsung will continue to be part of the production of OLED panels for iPhone (and other Apple devices) for many years.
As indicated from MacRumors it is estimated that LG will supply between 10% and 20% of OLED panels in 2019 , and will increase its production by 20% - 30% by 2020. It is also speculated that the company General Foxconn's Interface Solution (GIS) will help with the lamination process of these OLED panels.
