Evolution iOS: A Walk from iOS 1 to 9



Apple has come a long way in terms of development, updating and, consequently, the evolution of iOS. Gradually, the mobile OS iPhone and iPad has been transformed by incorporating new features , functions, features and performance to become the best mobile operating system in history.

Many operating systems on Apple works: iOS, watchOS, TVOS, macOS ... But this has not stopped the software side of its smartphones and tablets throughout its evolution.

In fact, there is little for the arrival of iOS 10 , the new operating system for iPhone and iPad will be presented at WWDC in June 2016. And as we do every year, touches give an overview of the developments that have taken iOS throughout its history.

The evolution of iOS


iPhone OS (iOS 1)


That's right, the first mobile operating system Cupertino company not called iOS 1 but iPhone OS. Naturally, it was a pretty basic software. For example, there was an App Store, or multi-touch gestures, nor offered users the ability to take a screenshot. But nevertheless, it was a system that would forever change our lives.


iPhone OS 2 (iOS 2)

The second iteration of Apple 's mobile operating system debuted in 2008 and fairly stabilized the iPhone software. App Store, the Contacts application and a scientific calculator was introduced. By the way, do you remember that awful was the icon of the YouTube app by then? 😉


iOS 3+

In 2009, Apple released iPhone OS 3, and version 3.2 was renamed to iOS 3.2. So, without a doubt, we could say that it was the most significant upgrade in the history of software for smartphones. iOS 3 incorporated all kinds of news: Spotlight search, Copy and Paste buttons, video recording, video editing, MMS messages, voice commands, landscape mode and many other apps.


iOS 4

iOS 4 arrived in mid-2010, and brought new changes to the platform. The most notable were the compatibility with wallpapers and functionality to open multiple apps. Additionally, Apple provided some animations and transitions in design.


iOS 5

Perhaps most of you remember perfectly the design of the user interface of iOS 5 , as it was one of the most popular mobile operating systems in Spain during 2011. Do you know how many new features included? Up to 200! It offered a iOS 5 Notification Center, Siri, iMessage, iCloud, Game Center, Newsstand, Reminders, Twitter social integration, and greatly improved the native app web browsing, Safari.


iOS 6

The arrival of iOS 6 to the iPhone and iPad brought very interesting news as the launch of Apple Maps (then quite poor), or Siri improvements (with much more accurate information). Facebook is also integrated with Twitter in the system, the Do Not Disturb mode and privacy settings. Interestingly (perhaps by the arrival of Apple Maps) YouTube and Google Maps withdrew as native apps.


iOS 7

For the first time since the official launch of the first iPhone OS, iOS 7 completely changed the design of the user interface thanks to the minimalist view of Jony Ive: typography, iconography, and other UI elements. But it is not all that changed ... View Today Notifications Center, App Switcher improved, AirDrop , and Control Center video in slow motion.


iOS 8

In mid-2014 Apple introduced iOS 8 , a version with very interesting new features like widgets for Notification Center or the interactive notifications. In addition, favorite contacts, were implemented keyboards third , the function Reachability and utility Continuity .


iOS 9

We arrived at 2015 and arrived at the controversial iOS in September . One of the most important functions that joined iOS undoubtedly is multitasking iOS in September , thanks to Split View, Slide Over and picture-in-picture allows us to open several apps simultaneously and watch videos in overlay. What else is new? Proactivity Siri, low power mode, mode Night Shift , new App Switcher, 3D Touch ...


One More Thing ... IOS 10

The day WWDC June 13, 2016 is in the offing, and Apple officially present the new iOS 10. At the moment, unknown what new will, but it is expected that changes are implemented in Safari, Photos and iCloud. We remain vigilant all the rumors and leaks. What Apple will surprise us this time?
