Normally in iOS, if you’re within an app and would like to access the music controls, the quickest way is to launch Control Center and use the media playback controls. TinyPlayer Lite is a new jailbreak tweak that provides systemwide access to music by displaying a floating widget on the screen for controlling the music playback.
The floating music widget can be accessed from anywhere within iOS and can be moved freely around the screen to be placed anywhere you want. Using the widget, you can view the artist and name of currently playing song, play/pause the song, skip to the next or the previous song and even share the song on social media such as Facebook and Twitter.
The widget also comes with an additional tray for accessing the playback controls. By tapping and holding on the play button, you can view this tray. It contains buttons for playing/pausing a song, skipping to the next or the previous track. Swiping the tray to the left will display icons for sharing the song to Facebook or Twitter.
The tweak also comes with tap gestures for controlling the song. By double tapping on the widget, you can skip to the next song and a trip tap will play the previous song. If you tap and hold on the widget, you can switch between the light and the dark theme. Personally, I prefer the dark theme as it looks more sleek and the interface is more visible.
To view or hide the music widget, you’ll have to use Activator. Head to the tweak’s preferences pane in Settings and choose an Activator gesture. Using this gesture, you can hide or unhide the widget from anywhere.
Apart from the stock Music app, TinyPlayer works with third-party music apps as well such as Spotify, Deezer, SoundCloud etc. This is currently the lite version of the tweak with limited features. There’s also a Pro version coming out in the future that will have additional themes, features and configuration options.
In terms of aesthetics, the tweak’s interface looks quite elegant and the widget is compact in size so it wouldn’t block the screen when you’re using an app. The only feature that is missing is the ability to adjust the volume level of the music but I suppose this will be included in the Pro version.
If you’re in to give this tweak a try, TinyPlayer Lite is available as a free package on Cydia’s BigBoss repo and supports iOS 9. Make sure to let us know what you think about it in the comments section.
