Most people claim that the new defense which will come with Town Hall 11 is pretty overpowered. Personally, I cannot disagree with that too much, but there’s some stuffs you guys should know so you can perceive this update better. In this thread, I’m going to give you a breakdown of everything there is from this weapon.
First of all, there’s no name for this weapon just yet, so let’s call it a Griffin, because – let’s face it- it looks like one. With that being said, It’s something totally new for clash of clans. Nothing we so far have had in the game looks like this type of building. It also looks like this defense is pretty big, compared to other buildings in the game.
The appearance of the griffin also changes the moment troops are being deployed. It lowers its head and out of its neck, it shoots a laser beam at incoming enemy troops.
Attack Range and Damage
Just as the appearance, the range of this weapon is something we haven’t seen before in clash. The range of the griffin is the entire base, so it’s going to be hard to not be spotted by this weapon. Luckily, there is some kind of safe zone, just like the mortar, which means that you’ll be able to dodge the beam and directly attack the griffin without being targeted.
The damage of the griffin seems to 50% of the troops health in damage. This means that a level 7 barbarian with 125 hitpoints, will lose half its health or 62 HP. A level 40 barbarian king on the other hand has 4.453 HP, so if it’s hit by the beam of the griffin, it will lose more than 2.200 HP.
This is also something new in clash. Just like with the earthquake spell, they want to take the strategy game to a higher level with perceptual amount of damage.
Dodging the beam
Currently it seems there’s only two ways of dodging the griffin’s beam. One is entering the safe zone and another one is when your troops are moving.
Air and Ground
Last but not least, it’s good to know that the griffin can target both air and ground troops, which means that none of your troops are ‘safe’. So once again, it seems like Supercell is trying to get more strategy involved in Clash of Clans.
Is the new defense overpowered or not?
Personally, I think it is sort of overpowered due to all of these different factors that are part of this defense. If your troops get stuck on a high-HP building, they’ll be done for sure.
Nonetheless we can’t forget that Supercell will obviously have this new defense balanced out before it will be implemented in the game, so the question that remains now is how will they do that? Most people say it’s something to do with the new herothat will come with this update, but as of now, we can’t be sure of that.
